White Heart was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame 2010 Beginning his career as a performer, songwriter, and producer for Bill Gaither and the Benson Company, he produced the 1st 4 Gaither Vocal band albums selling more than 1.5 million units. Out of his relationships there he formed the Grammy-nominated Rock Group WhiteHeart with producer/guitar player Dann Huff (Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, Keith Urban). He co-wrote and produced most of the songs and albums from their catalog, and WhiteHeart went on to tour worldwide over the next 17 years, selling over 3 million records, with 17 #1 Singles, 2 Grammy nominations, and 23 Dove nominations. 


Now having produced and written for over 200 records and 30 #1 songs, Smiley has 5 Grammy Nominations,  including the 1989 Grammy-nominated song "Silent Night", as recorded by BeBe & CeCe Winans.

As a songwriter, he has written 27 # 1 songs, over 50 top 10 songs, all the while writing for Provident/Brentwood/Benson Publishing, Capital Music/Sparrow Records, Word Publishing, Curb Records, Sony/BMG, and his company Meet You Halfway Music/ He helped discover, develop, produce, and write for such artists as: WhiteHeart, Petra, Johnny Cash, Steven Curtis Chapman, Margaret Becker, The Union of Sinners and Saints, The Newsboys, Jean Watson, Susan Ashton, Petra, Clay Aikens, Justified, Elizabeth South, The Normals, and Charity Von.

2018 saw Smiley formed his new company, “Music City Collective”. A ‘new’ model of a record label in today’s music world, MCC is truly a unified “Collective” team of independent PR, Video, Management, Booking, Consulting, and Media experts all based out the Nashville area. / 


Northern Shore Productions, his development, and production studio is based out of the famous Sound Kitchen Studios in Franklin, TN (Studio D)

With 4 labels positioned under the Music City Collective brand, he has established major distribution partners with various partners. Currently, 3 of his artists are being distributed through a label partnership with Naxos, 3 with Distrokid, 19 with The Orchard (Sony Red), and 12 artists through TuneCore.
